I try to keep on top of things with my online business, I really, really try - but sometimes I miss. This time I missed something that deserved recognition.

I'm both humbled and honored by something I found today...and it's from a month ago. One month is like a million years in the internet business world! Heck, even TWO DAYS ago is like "old news" in the virtual world, isn't it? =)

Hopefully, *I* am not old news....lol.

A sincere apology and a great big THANK YOU goes out to WelcomeToMyIsland.com. This blog master did a wonderful post about me on their blog titled, "Successful Squidoo Lensmaster to Learn From".

What an honor! ::blush:::

This post not only talked about my success online, but also about my Squidoo Profit System.

WelcomeToMyIsland.com is a cool blog that talks about many aspects of making money online. In the about page is a quote I love... and I also try to follow.

"I believe that once someone finds success, they shouldn’t hold onto it and hide it from everyone else. I like the phrase “When you get to the top, send the elevator back down.” When I find success, I don’t want to hold the elevator, I want to send it back down, so others can ride it up. "

So well-said, and so true.

Knowledge is useless unless you share it.

Hop on over to WelcomeToMyIsland.com - you'll enjoy your stay.

Again, thank you, thank you.... thank you!

I am exhausted. What a week! I've been very busy with my niche sites and other projects that I could literally put my head on this keyboard and sleep like a baby. However, all this hard work is paying off. Just looking at my stats tends to give me a second wind...or fourth wind....fifth? =)

As we start a new month, I'd like to share a few cool things I've come across in my travels on the internet.

Wordtracker Keyword Research Tool

I cannot even begin to stress strongly enough just how important, and how profitable good keyword research is. Not just knowing HOW to do keyword research, but having the right tools to perform your research on. Wordtracker is the bestest ever. This small investment in your business will be returned to you ten, twenty, thirty... a hundred fold. Wordtracker is offering a great deal this month - it's worth taking advantage of their free trial to see what I'm talking about. Click here and use promo code us-annual-15 to take advantage of this deep discount. Offer ends November 30th.

If you'd still like to use free keyword research tools, I came across the most complete list of free keyword tools to use for your research over at websigity.com. Check them out - it's great stuff!

Free Stuff and an Awesome Affiliate Marketing Blog

I am a big fan of Zac Johnson's Super Affiliate Blog. His blog is FULL of solid affiliate marketing advice and direction, and he somehow mixes in his fun side. A definite must read. Zac announced that he is giving away free "I Make Money Online" bumper stickers.... drop by his blog to get yours.

Google Adsense on ABC News

Are you a "Gray Googler"? Check out this great news clip on ABC News about the Google Adsense program. Interesting stuff.... guess the "secret" is outta the bag now, huh? =)

Squidoo for Christmas

Yes all you good boys and girls...the holidays are coming. We are now officially entering the holiday shopping season. Get you Squidoo lenses freshened up and ready for business! Don't let your sales opportunities slip by you. Spend an extra 5 minutes on your lenses to make sure all your links work, your images are appropriate and your holiday decorations are up.

Speaking of Squidoo....

Captain Squid has a great Squidoo-related blog. Great tools and advice. Highly recommended.

Final thoughts from my exhausted state

And for a great laugh, read this blog that offers a copy of one womans eBay auction for Pokemon cards. Sound silly? If you have kids - this will make you laugh til you cry! Poor woman had to take all 6 of her young children to the grocery store and one of them slipped a box of pokemon cards into her cart. Funny, funny stuff. Read "Adventures in Grocery Shopping"

Ok, to bed I go. Here's to a great November!

As many of you know, I came into this whole "make money online" thing in late February of this year. I had run across Agloco sometime around my birthday (Feb 13th) and it completely changed my entire perception of the internet.

Suddenly I became aware that every single thing on the internet was monetized. Odd statement, isn't it? But when you are a casual surfer, do you really notice those things? I didn't. I was aware of ads, yes, of course...but the extent of it all- the potential of it all- totally blew me away.

I just knew this was an opportunity for me. I'm no computer expert, didn't know HTML or CSS or php or FTP (uh, but I knew MTv...lol!), but I could feel that if I was ever going to offer myself the chance at something better - this was it.

Make Money HOW?

I knew one person that might be able to explain this whole thing to me. He said two words..... "Clickbank" and "Warrior Forum". He might as well have been talking in Romanian. Then he said one last thing - "Go to the Warrior Forum and READ"

By golly, I did! I read and read and read. I spent no less than 18 hours a day in front of my computer. Stress on the family life and personal life? You betcha! But in my mind, I was in "school" and I was learning something that would change my life.

I was right. Now, I'm far from a millionaire, but this is all really working. In the time it would take to conceive and birth a child, I have conceived and birthed my own online business.

Is it "time"?

My goal for Jan 1 is to have all this online business stuff OUT of my name and into a business entity. I guess I need to umbrella it all under one company (LLC) name?

This is where I need your help. I have been researching online trying to find others that have been where I am now. I need help with the business side of making money online. I want to know about setting up a business for someone who does what I do. Niche marketing, affiliate marketing, no inventory, some freelance work, etc.

I know I am not the only one. I read blogs of MANY folks who do what I do.

When was it "time"? How did you go about it?

Anyone?

If you don't want to post a comment, email me - potpiegirl(at)potpieworld(dot)com.

I'd love to hear from you and would so appreciate any advice or insight.

I imagine this is the time that someone like me would appreciate a mentor. Someone who has "been there, done that".

I think it's time for me to take the training wheels off =)

What exciting news I received yesterday in my email! I have been chosen by the staff at Squidoo to be a Giant Squid! Yes, ME! PotPieGirl! What an honor! See that over there ------> That is my honorary Giant Squid badge!

They like me...they really like me! (ok, sorry for the old Sally Field thing...haha)

I have a pretty good feeling that most of you reading this are totally UNimpressed, aren't you? What the heck IS a Giant Squid, anyway? and WHY is this PotPieGirl chick all happy to be chosen to BE one?

Ok, I hear ya - so let me back up a bit.

There has been a super secret competition going on within a select few lensmasters. Squidoo sent out invitations to a couple hundred of us that challenged us each to create more lenses and to try and have 100 or more high-quality lenses on our dashboard.

When I received the invitation, I took a long look at my dashboard and I "only" had 50+ - worse yet, I simply didn't have the time to mass-create more lenses at that time. Heck I am so busy teaching others how to make money with Squidoo thru my Squidoo Profit System and the follow up help (let alone the lenses I am contracted out to create), there was no way I could create that many more lenses on top of the rest of it!

So, regretfully, I had to let the opportunity to be a Giant Squid slide. I haven't thought too much about it lately as I've been so, so busy elsewhere.

Then - out of the clear blue sky - I get an email from Squidoo yesterday.

It reads:

Congratulations! You have been chosen to join the Giant Squids, our elite squad of the best and most prolific lensmasters on Squidoo. We're nothing short of honored to be working with you.

Then it went on to list all the super secret goodies I get for being chosen for this honor (and it's some real good stuff, too!). However, I imagine I'm not supposed to talk about the goodies.

So, how many lensmasters were honored with this recognition? My last check at the super secret Giant Squid blog showed me a count of about 25 or so that have responded.

All I can say is that this PotPieGirl is truly honored to be recognized by the Squidoo owner (thank you Seth Godin) and the entire Squidoo staff (that means you, too, Megan!) for this recognition as one of their best lensmasters.

Thank you!

I have worked hard on Squidoo and have also worked doubly hard to get others to this fantastic site AND teach them how to properly create high-quality Squidoo lenses with the Squidoo Profit System.

Finally! The last bit of information I needed from my online marketing efforts came available and I was able to update my earnings for the month of August. I did pretty well - in fact, I made $600 more than my July online earnings of $1609.08.

My Clickbank sales weren't as good (but they will be WAY better for September!), but my adsense earnings were up a healthy amount.

The big thing that happened in August is that I have freelanced my services out to a online marketing group. I spend about 15-20 hours per week working for them. What do I do? THAT is the beauty of it! I do the same things for them as I do for myself - plus, I get to learn so much from their years of experience from internet marketing. It's been really great and I have to admit, I am enjoying it tremendously.

However, my time spent on these other projects shows in my lower earnings from Associate Content. I just haven't had the time to submit as many articles as I used to. However, I have 2 articles on AC that are really kicking butt with page views - and I LIKE that!

All in all, August was a good month. I know September earnings will be even better. I discovered a little thing called niche blogging - and honey, niche blogging is the where it's at!

I have found some super little niche keywords and clickbank products to go with them. Using free Blogger blogs, I am making some good money. My Clickbank earnings so far for September are already more than all of August combined. Makes me laugh when I realize I spent a whopping $4.97 for a niche blogging system that was magic!

What really tickles me (that is a Southern expression, sorry), is that before mid-February of this year, I had no clue what Internet Marketing was, what anchor text was, what Clickbank was...heck, I didn't even know a thing about keyword research. I knew NOTHING. (Ok, I did know how to send and receive email...you caught me. ha!) And today, I get to report to the world that I made over $2200 online last month.

It's a damn good feeling.

Yes, I worked my butt off. Yes, I crammed every teeny tiny morsel of information into my brain til I thought I would explode....but it is really happening.

I've had some dis-believers say - "Sure you made $2200 online - but how much did it COST you to make that????"

I will list out my monthly expenses...ready?

I pay about $12 a month for a website...and $19.95 a month for an aweber auto responder account.

I need a website to sell my Squidoo Profit System and other ebooks - and there is no way I would make a single web page online without building a list. Aweber autoresponder is AWESOME, and I wouldn't work online without it.

Whew - that was a long list, huh? Now, I also spend maybe $50 a month on other products to review or for my own education so I guess we can safely say I have about $100 a month in over-head.

Tell me one other way to earn a living that costs that little? Even a "real job" requires more than that in gas each month! Let alone clothes, lunches, etc.

Yup, it's been hard work - but I wouldn't trade it for anything!

You can view the breakdown of my August earnings over there ----> to the right in my blog sidebar.

Have a great day!

I get many emails, private messages, and questions in forums about my experience with Squidoo that I figured it's time to spill it and do something very unconventional.

This will be unusual.

No, this will be flat-out WEIRD.

I am about to interview myself.

Now, don't get me wrong - I am not going to talk to myself, but I am going to re-print the most common questions I get asked about my "career" on Squidoo.

Why not, right? It's not like Squidoo is some deep, dark secret.

So, here we go. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to leave them in the comment section. I'll answer asap.

How long have you been active on Squidoo?

I think I signed up for Squidoo in Feb or March of 2007. I remember hearing about it and really liking the concept/vision Seth Godin had for the site. However, I signed up and had NO CLUE what I was supposed to be doing or how to do it. I messed around with it for a little, and then I guess I gave up and forgot about it.

What brought you back to Squidoo?

A little book called Squidoo Blueprint. I read that ebook and it's like a lightbulb went off. Not only did I "get" what I was trying to accomplish, but I had a uhhh...well, for lack of a better word, I had a blueprint to follow that showed me HOW to accomplish it. It certainly was a defining moment.

After that "defining moment", how did you do with your lenses?

I made notes of my first attempt with making Squidoo lenses after reading Squidoo Blueprint. I created a few lenses on May 2, 2007 and they all did well, and it was QUICK.

For example, my still best-performing lens, Lens Exposure was #132,965 the day i created it. Over night, it went to #2,495 and #77 in its category. Within 5 days, it was at #1268 over-all and #35 in its category. Once I had the total concept of what I was doing, and how I needed to do it... I was off running!

In the 3 months since creating that lens, it has gotten better and better - it has even spent time in the Top 100 lenses OVER-ALL!

Is the "secret" to Squidoo all in making the lenses?

No. While it is super important to do "on-page" optimization properly, it is equally important to learn how to promote your lenses. I learned a lot about that from Squidoo Marketing Systems.

Ron Pass, the author, is such a neat guy. From Ron, I learned not only about creating lenses, but about marketing them to get the most traffic possible. There so many things you can do to increase traffic AND lensrank. Simple things - like signing guestbooks, but knowing when to leave a link to YOUR lens - and when NOT to leave a link. There are so many tips to doing better on Squidoo and Ron has so many of them in one place (AND he sends a regular update newsletter when he finds something else).

How many lenses on Squidoo do you have?

I believe I am currently at about 44 lenses. The ones at the bottom of the heap are patiently waiting for me to stop playing on my blog and come love them a little =)

Out of all your lenses, which is your favorite?

Actually, I have a couple of favorites.

I love What is Squidoo? Squidoo is such a cool site and I want everyone to be as fired up about it as I am.

I also really like my Blogging Advice lens. I made that lens right before I started this blog. Blogging was intimidating to me and I wanted to learn how to do it right. That lens offers a lot of solid advice on how to get the blog going.

I love making lenses that allow me to have the real "me" shine thru. I have an odd and conversational writing style that may annoy some - but it's me. I type the same way I would talk to you if you were sitting right in front of me.

Whats the best single piece of advice you would give a new-comer to Squidoo?

While there are so many important things to know and practice on Squidoo, I would say this is the #1 -

Write your own content.

Nothing works better than your own unique style and wording. Once you learn how to create properly key-worded content, the sky will be the limit for you. Copy/paste ain't gonna cut it on Squidoo - or anywhere on the web.

What do you think of the recent "Squidoo Slap"?

This may sound odd, but I am actually glad it happened. So many lenses with sub-par content were riding the coat-tails of Squidoos powerful Page Rank... it wasn't fair to those that were busting tail to make solid and high-quality lenses. I'm afraid that if the spammers kept on being rewarded from Google by simply abusing Squidoo, that the entire site could have fallen apart. To me, this so-called "Squidoo Slap" was like a good rain shower that cleared the air. Now we can all get back to work.

How did you do on the last pay-out from Squidoo?

I did well...about double the previous month. I made a bit over $60 and that made me quite happy. Heck, Seth Godin is the only person I know that pays me to hang out with him! That payment was purely because I have lenses on Squidoo (AND I learned HOW to create them). I can't wait for NEXT month! Is it September yet?

Is Squidoo your sole source of online income?

Oh no....definitely not. One really good rule is to never put all your eggs in one cyber basket. I love Squidoo, and Squidoo has been darn good to me - BUT, it is ONE free platform I use to create a whole system of revenue on the internet.

What's your golf handicap?

Uh boy - now who went and asked that? Once upon a time, before my butt was parked in front of a computer all day, my handicap was about a 9. If I play to a 14 now, I am thrilled. I just don't get to play enough.

You and your hubby play a lot of golf together....do you place wagers on your round?

Always. And honey, it can get quite serious. He is my husband and best friend...but on the golf course he is just another player (as I am to him). Being that we are both highly-competitive people, we both enjoy this trait about each other ...most of the time ;)

Who wins most often?

Oh dear, can I take the 5th on that? Hmmm....

Alright, here is my official answer since this blog is available to be read 'round the globe.

At this moment we are all square. That's my story, I'm sticking to it.

The best way to meet PotPieGirl is on the golf course! My hubby and I met while I was running a local golf course. My husband and I are both big golfers. These pictures were taken in Myrtle Beach while we were playing in a WONDERFUL three-day couples golf tournament.

Yes, this is me - in action

And this is me and the hubby...

We have 4 children ranging from 3 to 19. Needless to say, with kids that age range, life is a chaotic blessing!

We live outside Atlanta, Georgia. For the college football fans, we are about 15 minutes outside the home of the Georgia Bulldogs - Athens, Georgia. However, no 'Dawg fans in this house. Hubby is a die-hard Tide fan. I really think his blood is crimson! haha!

I started looking in to internet marketing earlier this year and I am SO glad I did. I truly believe that the internet has leveled the playing field and now offers anyone the opportunity to have their own home-based business. Not only does having a home-based business offer an additional (or better) income stream, it also allows us to take advantage of valuable tax breaks.

My first "paradigm shift" regarding the internet was when I was exposed to a "little" start up company called Agloco. While reading about this company I realized that anytime anyone did anything online, someone was making money off of it.

That concept stopped me cold and all my initial thoughts and perceptions about the internet as a casual surfer were changed...forever.

If someone was making money online from MY time on the internet, why shouldn't it be ME?

Agloco offers users a little "viewbar" that is as small as the task bar at the bottom of your computer screen. Random ads are displayed while you are busy doing other things online, and members get credit for their time surfing with the viewbar running. If you're gonna spend time online, why not get paid for it, right?

After that perception change, I was off and running to learn all that I could and figure out how the average "Joe" and "Jane" - everyday people - could change their life with something we all have right in front of us... our computer.

It can be done...and no one has to pay a dime to do it.

I appreciate you taking the time to "meet" me. Please feel free to comment, or ask any questions you have. The things I do, and the things I've learned are only valuable if I use them to help someone else.

~Jennifer (PotPieGirl)

In this blog, I plan to talk about Squidoo, blogs, articles, gpt sites, and all things free that offer everyday people - people like you and I - a way to really make money through the internet.

BUT - Before I get into any of that, I want to say something to anyone who finds, or trips and falls onto, this blog.

We are living in a wonderful time. The internet is no longer something we browse or surf as we research, keep in contact through email, or entertain ourselves.

The internet has become an opportunity for everyone.

If you have an internet connection -

If you can read -

If you can type ....

YOU can make money online.

I want to take this opportunity to break any misconceptions you may have.

Misconception #1 - Earning money online is NOT reserved for big corporations, or big-shot advertisers, or rich gurus.

Misconception #2 - It does not TAKE money to MAKE money online.

Misconception #3 - You do not need special skills, super powers, or years of computer education to make money online.

I personally guarantee all of the above...pinky-promise...scouts honor.

I am walking, talking, typing, living proof that NONE of those 3 misconceptions are true.

If you are willing to think outside the box and be willing to perceive the internet in a whole new way....

If you are willing to apply yourself and are willing to learn.....

If you are willing to make mistakes.....

You can do this, too.

There is one fantasy I want you to let go of, though...

Making money online does NOT mean "get rich quick" or " be a millionaire over night"...and it definitely does not mean "EASY MONEY".

The internet is an opportunity... a VEHICLE...that can help you get where you WANT to be in life.

An opportunity to take control of the bills that keep you living paycheck to paycheck.

An opportunity to have extra spending money for the things you WANT to do

An opportunity to give yourself some security when in this day and age, the term "job security" is obsolete.

Even if you make $10 extra dollars a week online for a year, you could have an extra $500 for Christmas.

And in that year, you will have learned new skills that improve YOU...you will be able to double that the next year based on the things you've learned. Or maybe you'll learn quicker and make $20 a week the second half of your first year.

If you're looking for an instant, easy way out of debt and job-frustration - please use the back button on your browser. This is not the place for you.

This IS the place for someone who is willing to learn from my travels and experiences and for those that would like to feel the true liberating joy of working for YOU - the pride in personal ACHIEVEMENT.

I am going to step down from my soap box here in just a second, and get to the point of this whole blog and use of my time.

Before I do, one last thing - If you are having money troubles, or would just like to be able to get ahead in life - there is NO excuse to not learn, and USE, a resource that is sitting right in front of you.

Your computer.

:::stepping down::::
